Scammers are always looking for ways to fool investors by launching meme coins linked to celebrities and politicians. Over the weekend, several fake tokens popped up using Cristiano Ronaldo's name after rumors spread that he might release a meme coin. However, there is no solid evidence to support these claims. One of these coins collided with a market capitalization of $143 million before collapsed within 15 minutes.
Fake CR7 coins trick investors
The so-called CR7 token, named after Ronaldo's famous nickname, has been pushed online by many influencers, but many influencers have since removed the post. According to Blockchain Research Firm's Bubblemaps, the tokens were probably the work of coordinated groups rather than random individuals.
Much of the hype came from an existing partnership with Ronaldo and Binance, which began in 2022 and includes four NFT drops. However, most of the fake tokens were not even binance, they appeared in Solana instead.
At least five different CR7 themed meme coins were launched there, but none of them passed a market capitalization of $1 million. The real traction was influencer-sales tokens, reaching a market capitalization of up to $143.2 million in just six minutes.

After Kanye West rolled out the Yzy token, some influencers may have tried to ride the hype, suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo was also about to release it. They then created an informal token, shared the contract address for their accounts, and attracted them to investors.
Has Ronaldo actually launched Memo Coin?
Cristiano Ronaldo himself has not made any social media posts regarding the launch of tokens, except for his past NFT collections. Coinpedia also reports that there is no solid evidence to support the claim.
Within minutes of promotion online, Crypto Investor Lawdspotter noted that “Ronaldo Coin” had a brief plunge to a market capitalization of $100 million. However, it turned out to be fake as the promoter quickly pulled the lag and deleted the post.
In short, the rumor that Ronaldo will create a meme coin is wrong. Neither the player nor his management has given any indication of such a plan.
The hype came shortly after Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, officially launched her own token. According to Dex Screener, his Yzy Coin surged to a market capitalization of $411.23 million within an hour, then crashed between 74% and $105 million over the next 24 hours.
