Exchange Coinbase (Coin), a registered cryptocurrency registered in the US, is creating a new ecosystem that combines Stablecoin-based micropayments with AI.
Coinbase engineers have added a discovery layer for AI agents like “Google for Agents” calling X402 Bazaar.
This is to unlock new paradigms within Agent Commerce. This is a term often associated with humans who set the requirements and preferences for humans to shop for them.
In fact, the market for what AI agents want to buy is actually much larger than what humans want to buy, says Erik Reppel, head of engineering at Coinbase Developer Platform. He used the term “per crawl salary” to describe the problem being solved.
“Think of it like a scraper paywall,” Reppel said in an interview. “Therefore, X402 is a major criterion for situations where AI agents need access to data or content to make better, informed decisions.”
Imagine pulling out the latest market data, commissioning designs from AI ART models, or subscribing to a live sports and finance data feed.
The first projects listed include Prixe, the Stock API that allows Agent, the Stock Price API, to produce the latest financial reports, and various image and video generation endpoints.
More services added only expands the possibilities for autonomous workflows, Reppel says.
“In fact, digital products and digital media can be paid for x 402,” he said.
