Important points
- MetaMask now allows users to buy, exchange, and transfer Bitcoin directly within their wallets.
- The Bitcoin integration leverages multi-chain accounts and currently supports SegWit, with support for Taproot coming soon.
MetaMask today added support for Bitcoin, allowing users to buy, exchange, and transfer digital assets within their wallet application.
With this update, Bitcoin addresses will be automatically generated for users who upgrade to the latest version of MetaMask through the multi-chain account feature. The wallet currently supports native SegWit derived paths, but Taproot support is planned for a future release.
Users can purchase Bitcoin directly from the app's buy button using their local currency or a variety of payment methods, including debit card, credit card, Apple Pay, PayPal, and bank account, but availability may vary by region. The wallet's built-in swap feature allows users to move funds from the EVM network or Solana to Bitcoin.
The Bitcoin integration follows MetaMask's multi-chain expansion earlier this year, including the launch of Monad and sei, with additional networks planned for 2026.
