The partnership with Bermuda comes just weeks after Filecoin ranked second on Santiment's 30-day Top 10 Developer Activity list, behind Metamask. CNF noticed Filecoin recorded 343.6 GitHub commits during the period, surpassing StarkNet's 259.13.
Filecoin: Archives Preservation through the Library of Democracy
Bermuda's upload is performed using the Internet Archive through Democracy's Library, an online collection that provides access to government documents, research, and publications from multiple jurisdictions. The Filecoin Foundation and the Internet Archive previously collaborated on preserving public datasets under the same program.
According to the announcement, more than 1 petabyte of government documents have already been stored on Filecoin through related work. Examples include the End of Term Web Archive, which preserves U.S. government websites during the transition period, and the Aruba Collection, which includes more than 100,000 items from Aruba's memory institutions, including the National Library and National Archives.
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance E. David Burt said the collaboration will strengthen the durability of public records, while allowing Bermuda residents and other users to verify the integrity of the data.
Foundation President and Chair Marta Belcher added:
A decentralized web allows you to access your data even if some devices fail, so information availability is no longer dependent on a single server or company.
The announcement enumerates features related to this model, including replication between providers to reduce the risk of outages and the use of encrypted content identifiers that allow changes and tamper detection when files are modified. Officials said files can be retrieved and independently verified, supporting transparent access to and preservation of public archives.
Bermuda also linked this commitment to its broader digital policy, noting that since 2018 it has maintained a regulatory framework for digital asset activities through the Digital Asset Business Act and the Bermuda Monetary Authority's principles-based approach.
