Strategy, the largest corporate accumulator of Bitcoin (BTC), is in talks with index provider MSCI about potentially being removed from some of the major stock market reference stocks.
This was confirmed by company executive officer Michael Saylor, who indicated that the company was “in the process.” and said I don't really understand JPMorgan Bank's estimate of $8.8 billion in capital outflows is accurate.
The banking entity said that if the strategy is ultimately removed from MSCI, it could result in large withdrawals if other providers make the same decision. Strategy currently integrates the MSCI USA and MSCI World indexes. Tying part of the assessment to passive vehicle flowsexchange-traded funds (ETFs), etc.
JPMorgan added that it would be delisted. There will be doubts about the company's operating costs. and the ability to raise new capital and debt, which is a key component of the Bitcoin accumulation strategy.
You should consider that Strategy stock is down 40% this year, as seen in the chart below. The situation will only get worse if the company is eventually delisted from MSCI.
The controversy arose when Strategy CEO Phong Le revealed under what circumstances the company would sell its Bitcoin holdings, as reported by CriptoNoticias.
MSCI's final decision is expected to be announced on January 15, 2026.
