The company Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has executed a series of Bitcoin (BTC) moves to new addresses in recent hours, likely as part of a relocation scheme.
A total of 22,704 BTC was transferred, which is equivalent to approximately $2.45 billion. 20 new addresses starting with the prefix “bc1q”according to Chain Records.
Analyst Emmett Garrick said the operation could be related to “new address testing and custody changes.” However, the fact that the new address is of type bech32 (P2WPKH) attracts attention.. This format increases resistance to potential quantum computing attacks.
Now, if quantum computers can reveal public keys from digital signatures, old Bitcoin addresses (such as P2PK, P2PKH, and P2MS starting with the number “1” and P2SH starting with “3”) could become vulnerable. As recently analyzed by CriptoNoticias, theoretical risks also exist with P2TR (Taproot, starting with “bc1p”).
In contrast, P2WPKH (bech32, “bc1q”) addresses, such as those used by Strategy, Hide your public key until your Bitcoins are depleted. This greatly reduces the attack surface.
The company, led by Michael Saylor, has not released an official statement, but the move Suggest preventive updates to your backup infrastructure. This is in line with technical recommendations to protect funds from future advances in quantum computing.
