What causes the surge in tether users?
The recent surge in USDT users could be attributed to the economic uncertainty that has since triggered the product that has been in the US with President Donald Trump's comprehensive blankets for release day.
Stablecoins provide users with safe shelter assets to store funds that are clearly less volatile compared to other crypto assets. Therefore, many users have chosen to exchange crypto and fiat for stubcoin to protect it from market volatility.
Recently, Bloomberg published a report highlighting that wealthy Indonesians have begun to buy more USDT in recent months as a way to address concerns about economic uncertainty.
According to the report, a private banker said Indonesians with net worth ranging from $100 million to $400 million invest 10% of their assets in crypto. On April 9, Indonesia's rupiah approached a record low of RP16,957 per dollar following tariff tensions.
Since the beginning of March, the USDT-Rupiah pair transactions have now contributed to more than a quarter of the daily volume of Indonesia's crypto exchange Tokocrypto.
