The US representative Brandon Gill has revealed an interesting cryptocurrency purchase that coincides with the period when Congress votes for major digital asset regulations.
According to a filing on August 12, Texas lawmakers spent between $50,001 and $100,000 on iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) on the trade carried out on July 17, 2025.
The timing of this parliamentary trade is remarkable. This was the same day that the US House of Representatives passed the Landmark Genius Act.
Part of the broader digital asset legislative package, the Genius Act aims to set a monitoring responsibility for payment stability and bring regulatory clarity to the crypto sector.
The passage sparked critical market interest in digital assets, making it particularly sensitive to same-day crypto transactions by lawmakers.
Other crypto purchases from Gill
In particular, this is not the first time lawmakers have achieved position in the cryptocurrency field. Gill's previous submissions show previous activities this year, including the purchase of $100,001 and $250,000 worth of Bitcoin (BTC) on both June 23 and July 8, 2025.
In recent years, as cryptocurrencies have moved into more regulated spaces, several lawmakers have increasingly invested in a variety of digital assets. Among them is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a vocal supporter for the sector.
Interestingly, not all politicians are focused on established digital currencies such as Bitcoin. For example, as reported by Finbold, representative Mike Collins has accumulated stocks in several meme coins over the past few months.
