- Vechain was highlighted in academic research to increase seafood traceability, transparency and trust across fragmented chains.
- Blockchain ERP integration shows stronger collaboration, fraud reduction and real impact compared to ERP-only systems.
Academic research in 2025 has given Vechain a new awareness in the blockchain sector and highlighted its application to seafood traceability. This study explores blockchain combined with ERP systems and shows how platforms such as VeChain are working to transparent supply chains while enhancing collaboration in global trade.
This study, published in IEEE Access, analyzed 18 deployment scenarios for blockchain integration within supply networks. We concluded that the blockchain ERP combination increases traceability, visibility and trust compared to ERP alone. These findings placed VeChain among examples of practical cases with measurable real-world impacts in the seafood industry.
Researchers emphasized that blockchain offers a strong advantage in food tracking by keeping immutable records such as harvest dates, expiration dates, and product origins. These features reduce fraud, ensure cold chain monitoring and provide authenticity checks. All of these are particularly relevant to the seafood supply network.

Seafood traceability and blockchain adoption
The paper states, “VeChain's platform is another example of working with companies in the seafood industry to implement a blockchain for seafood traceability.” With such a direct reference, VeChain will come together with major global pilots such as Walmart and Carrefour. It already adopts blockchain for food safety and traceability initiatives.
Such inclusion is important as seafood continues to be one of the most challenging industries in terms of traceability. Various actors from the ocean, port and distributors tend to cause opacity in their records. Through the integration and distributed validation of smart contracts, Vechain's strategy provides certainty and consumer trust across these fragmented chains.
Vechain Ambassador's Sebastian.vet reinforced this point in his official statement and wrote for X.
From the sea to the chain, Bechang has the supply chain where trust is the most important thing.
It is in line with the conclusions of the research paper that blockchain ensures timely and transparent reporting between trading partners.
Findings from the 2025 comparative analysis
This research does not only draw seafood in the spotlight. We examined the impact of end-to-end visibility on the broader supply chain, including how to reduce, validate, and increase trust across borders for businesses. Industry experts noted that blockchain implementations promote a higher level of collaboration maturity than standalone ERP applications.
In particular, three deployment scenarios scored the best for real-time tracking and transparency. These scenarios consisted of private, public and consortium models of blockchain with complete data sharing in transactions, and were associated with the greatest traceability benefits.
Furthermore, this study showed that blockchain systems are particularly beneficial in maimation or engineering manufacturing settings. For example, in seafood, these are orders customized to the specifications of the buyer who demand reliable trajectories and stages of the product's origin and condition.
Due to cross-border transactions, the research predicted that blockchain would help generate trust among foreign players without long-term connections. It was presented as a way to reduce disputes, automatically implement customs procedures and have a safer trade route across borders.
