Internet personality and actor Adam Conover fired fire after promoting World Chain, a crypto project backed by Sam Altman. The project has been hit with backlash in several countries due to data privacy concerns.
The Instagram reel posted to Conover's official Instagram account was posted to an Internet personality that shows the Internet personality registered with the World ID on the Crypto Project World Chain (WLD), supported by Sam Altman.
In a lengthy three-minute video co-posted on official world accounts, Adam Conover explained to viewers that he was paid by the World Project to come to the keynote speech being held in San Francisco. He claimed he was there to ask questions about the product.
“So they don't want me to support it. They just want me to ask questions about it, ask skeptical questions, and hope that you can make up for yourself about it and help you understand what it really does,” Conover said in the video.
Throughout the video, he interacts with the project's Iris Scan Orb and representatives, questions about the project and questions about why he's paying $41 in WLD tokens to sign up for the app.
“There's a lot you can do with this app. If you're interested in cryptography. I'm not interested in cryptography. Maybe you want to check it out. They also say in the future you can log in to Tinder and other services using such a world,” says Conover.
“Tell me what you're going to do, are you orbing yourself? It's entirely up to you,” he continued.

Adam Conover's less skeptical approach to the global chain
Adam Conover emphasizes that he does not support the product, but Reddit users criticized him for appearing to promote the product and its usage. Adam Conover is known on the internet for being the host of a 30-minute Trutv show Adam ruins everything.
Many have found it ironic that Conover is now skeptical and approaching the world project. This is in stark contrast to his internet personality, which seems to be scrutinizing things rather than buying them that lightly.
“Even in the crypto space, Worldcoin is well known to be a major invasion of privacy and absolutely predatory. Adam – the whole Schtick is a deep study of popular topics – there's no reason to not know what he's promoting.
“And finally, once his work was done, Adam ruined everything else, so he turned his power inwards and ruined himself,” another user said.
Others highlight the fact that some of the videos that Adam Conover appears to be looking at with the Orb are only shown very easily. This has led some users to accuse him of not actually trusting himself, but he encourages others to do so.
The World Network has been banned and scrutinized for privacy concerns in countries like Indonesia, Brazil and Hong Kong through iris-shaped verification.
Recently, Indonesia's Ministry of Communications and Digital temporarily suspended the platform on May 5 in light of complaints about suspicious activities related to the platform.
The project declares that users can permanently delete their own unique IRIS code and effectively “interpret” their world ID. It also revealed that the verification data remains on the user's device and is not shared with third parties.
